Primary school textbooks to get new lesson on Ayurveda

BENGALURU: The health and family welfare department has taken steps to include lessons about Ayurveda in primary school text books to create awareness about the importance of Ayurveda among students, said UT Khader, health minister to government of Karnataka.

Inaugurating the 115th anniversary of Shathayu Ayurveda, that provides Ayurvedic products, treatment and service, UT Khader said: “The primary school students should know the efficacy of Ayurveda and the various medicinal plants used in it. At every level in school, students need to learn about cleanliness, food and nutrition essential for a healthy life. A discussion in this regard has been initiated with nutritionists and medical experts.”

He also launched Liver Care and Cholesterol Management units in the clinics of Shathayu Ayurveda.

“50-bedded AYUSH hospitals will be set up in all district headquarters. Two such hospitals have already been set up in Mangaluru and Gadag. There is also a proposal to set up 10-bedded Ayurvedic hospitals in all taluk headquarters,” he added.
