Ayurvedic tips for PSORIASIS

Psoriasis in Ayurveda is known as eka-kushta. In Ayurveda it is mentioned that Blood impurities along with some emotional factors are cause for Psoriasis. In modern or alopathy mdicine system clear reason for psoriasis is not given, but according to Ayurveda imbalance in Dosha Vata – Kapha, intake of irregular food, sour and salty food, smoking and alcohol consumption are major reason for Psoriasis.
It is a chronic recurrent papulo-squamous skin disease with silvery grey scaling papules or flakes. Although the condition may occur on any part of the body, the most common sites are surfaces over the knees and elbows. Since there is severe irritation on these patches the patient is unable to resist scratching. By scratching, scales come out of these patches and a shiny silver skin is exposed below the scales which is the characteristic feature of this diseases. At times, because of violent itching, watery exudation and blood come out of these patches which produce a burning sensation.

1) Psoriyago:
Skin is the largest organ of the body which protects the body from the outer environment. It is the organ that reflects many internal diseases by changing its character. Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease. According to Ayurvedic references, psoriasis is caused due to the imbalance between two of the body’s basic energies – Namely – vata and kapha relating to the circumstance of the body. In Ayurveda treatment the aim is to balance out these doshas and regain the equilibrium of the body. Lepa was used for the preparation which was exclusively used for skin application. Lepa was formulated with the intention of localized action of the herb. The thickness of various types of lepa is told to enable the active principles present in the particular lepa to be absorbed into the skin and do the desired action when the lepa is in wet condition and before it dries, along with lepa, internal medications are also needed.
Method of preparation:
The preparation of lepa take 1-2 teaspoon of choorna mix with water and applied to the effected part. All the lepa prepared are for instant and single use. Lepa is applied against the direction of the hair follicles for better absorption. Lepa should not be applied during night time because the lepa which is applied during the night time prevents the exchange of body heat with the atmosphere.

2) Dermagosval:
Neem is one among the best blood purifier and detoxifier known to Ayurveda. It enhances immune system. Leaf extracts are used in antiseptics and can be effectively used in treating psoriasis. It is best for almost all kinds of skin diseases including redness of skin and itching. So dermogosval capsule contains neem as a main content with other ingredients. One suffering from this problem can have one capsule twice a day 30 minutes before food.

Vegetables with bitter taste like bitter gourd, bitter variety of drumstick and flowers of neem tree are very useful.

Other remedies:
• Avoid nylon and other synthetic fabrics.
• Don’t use nails for scratching the patches.
