Ayurveda to be part of curriculum: Edu Minister

Steps will be taken to include the country’s ancient medical science Ayurveda in the school curriculum, Education Minister C. Raveendranath has said.

At a workshop organised by the Ayurveda Medicine Manufacturers Organisation of India and the Ayurveda Hospital Management Association here on Saturday, he said the government would recommend to the Center to bring Ayurveda as an optional subject in the Civil Services examinations.

P.R. Krishna Kumar, who presided over the function, stressed the importance of maintaining traditional standards of Ayurveda to popularize it nationally and internationally. Guinness record holder Francis Joseph was honored at the function.

Ayurveda Medicine Manufactures Organisation of India general secretary D. Ramanathan, District Medical Officer B. Sheela Karalam, Gayathri V. Mahindro, and others spoke.

Sources also say that centre will be asked to make Ayurveda an optional subject in Civil Services exam.
