Ayurveda – Changeri Herb and it medical importance

Changeri is an Ayurvedic herb with sour taste. It is used in digestive disorders. Its botanical name is Oxalis corniculata, belongs to Oxalidaceae family.

VERNACULAR NAMES:
English name – Indian Sorrel
Hindi name – Teen Pattia (because of the three leaflet structure of the leaves)
Synonyms – Kshudra amlika, Lonika, Amlalonika, Lola, Chatushparni, DantarathaEnglish name – Indian Sorrel

Properties:
Analgesic, anti inflammatory, denudate. Its local application helps in inflammation, headache, moles and eye disorders. Deepana – Improves digestion power,Hridya – heart tonic, Jwaraghna – anti pyretic, Lekhana – scrapes away wastes, Grahi – prevents excess loss of malas, Mada nasahaka – anti-intoxicant, Pachana – digests ama, Rochana – appetizer, Shotahara – anti-inflammatory, Shonitasthapana – increases blood, Vedana sthapana – stops pain, Yajrututtejaka – liver stimulant.

Medicinal Use:
Helps in indigestion and diarrhea in children,
Helps in Chronic dysentery,
Useful in treating jaundice,
Useful in treating wrinkles and warts
Useful in treating gum problems
Helpful in treating bleeding piles,prolapse rectum.
For headache , Helpful in treating over-bleeding in women
Helps in healing insomnia and induces sleep.
The leaves of puliyarila are good source of Calcium, vitamin C, and carotene.

Benefits:
Charaka & Sushruta highlighted its use in Grahani & Arsas ( Haemorroids) .
Local application of Changeri ghrita helpful in Anal fissure, Rectal prolapse, Haemorroids.
Curry of leaves improves appetite.
Leaves churned with buttermilk useful in dysentry.
External use:Analgesic, anti flammation its local application help in inflammation , headache , moles and eye disorders .

Home remedies:
Helpful in treating over-bleeding in women by consuming the juice mixed with honey.
Helps in healing insomnia and induces sleep, by taking the juice of the leaves mixed with castor oil.
